PROFILE

The Confucius Institute of the University of Thessaly (UTh CI) was established in 2019, based on an agreement between the University of Thessaly and the headquarters of the Confucius Institute (Hanban), in collaboration with the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) in Beijing.

Confucius Institute at the University of Thessaly is a bridge between Greece and China in the domain of education, culture, and business. By bringing together these two great civilizations and historic nations, we support business, local government, and community bodies in developing links with China through language training, cultural immersion, and networking.

The installation of a Confucius Institute at the University of Thessaly, and specifically at the University's headquarters in Volos, is among the 16 agreements signed during the visit of the President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, to Greece.

At the reception ceremony for the President of China by the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the agreement for the establishment of the new Confucius Institute was signed by the Rector of the University of Thessaly, Professor Zisis Mamouris, and the Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Ms. Zhang Qiyue, in the presence of the President of China, Xi Jinping.

The signing of the agreement is a seal of an effort that the University of Thessaly had started in recent years with the development of strategic partnerships with Higher Educational Institutions of the People's Republic of China.

Mission - Objectives

The Confucius Institute, in collaboration with the Central University of Finance and Economics, offers at the facilities of the University of Thessaly, Chinese Language courses, implements exchange programs and visits of students and professors and organizes cross-cultural cooperation actions. The Institute participate in a network of more than 500 Confucius Institutes around the world and develops research and educational partnerships with many of them. At the same time, it also functions as a mediation center between Greek and Chinese companies interested in developing cooperation. The Confucius Institute of UTh provides value-added services to a large number of partners who are already active or are interested in operating and developing their businesses in Greece and more specifically in Thessaly.

The Confucius Institute at the U.Th. aspires to contribute to the development of cultural and economic relations between Greece and China through the participation and organization of cultural activities, such as exhibitions, performances and seminars, the publication of publications and the distribution of audio-visual material. which will have a clear footprint in Thessaly and Central Greece.
